Regeneration Central...
More and more regularly I am finding myself a visitor to Birmingham, working on projects and looking at opportunities in the region. I have always had some connection with the City, having been involved in the development of Brindley Place and the really early days at what is now Arena Central. Back then, I appeared at the now-demolished ATV/Central Studios... surveying the building rather than a bit part in Crossroads, of course! (*younger readers may need to look up this iconic TV show!)
Walking around and seeing the number of cranes highlights the amount of regeneration that is taking place - it's easy to see why Birmingham has recently been identified as one of the most exciting locations for business and investment. HS2, hosting the Commonwealth Games, expanding the Metro... all support the premise that it is the right place to be.
The growing confidence in Birmingham has seen HSBC looking to relocate jobs from London along with the likes of Deutsche Bank, RICS and HS2. This activity is driving high levels of office take up - 1,0005,000 sq ft during 2017, 51% above the 10-year-average, according to Savills.
