2017 in review
It’s been another busy year for Plowman Craven… here’s just a few highlights from an eventful 2017.
A look back at the highlights of the past year...
January 2017
Smithfield Poultry Market
We spent three weeks scanning both the interior and exterior of the building, delivering a 3D BIM model as well as a comprehensive condition survey. Our UAV team proved invaluable in providing high-accuracy imagery and survey data of the iconic domed roof.
February 2017
Chelsea FC Stadium
February saw us engaged in the measurement of Chelsea FC’s existing and proposed stadia, providing area measurement reports to assist in the (successful) planning process. We also continued to conduct IPMS presentations, making clients aware of the new code of International Property Measurement Standards for residential.
March 2017
Construction News Specialists Awards – Highly Commended
Our innovative work on Crossrail – which involved surveying all 42km and creating a solution that enables the automated drilling machines to operate inside the new tunnels – was recognised at the prestigious Construction News Specialists Awards. We were delighted to be Highly Commended in the Innovation of the Year category.

Priority Schools Building Programme
A £4.4bn undertaking to rebuild the nation’s schools, our ongoing work for Mace on Priority Schools Building Project really shows our multi-disciplinary capabilities. So far, we’ve delivered no less than 17 different survey types at more than 50 schools.
May 2017
Property Management
Over the summer we increased our activity in this area, providing a full range of services covering everything from Technical Due Diligence to Environmental Impact Assessments. Working across a number of prestigious projects – including the lease regularisation of 3,500 NHS-owned properties - our independence and expertise has helped asset managers and owners to optimise their portfolios.
June 2017
Vogel R3D launch
In June we launched Vogel R3D - the world’s first drone-based rail survey system capable of sub-5mm accuracy. Network Rail hailed it as a game-changer and we’re now deploying Vogel on live jobs in the rail and wider infrastructure environment.
July 2107
3D UGS plus investment in GPR
In July it was all about our Underground Utilities Services, with significant investment in the latest GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) equipment and the development of capability to deliver UGS within the BIM environment for a complete above and below ground picture.
August 2017
RICS video with Ali-A
Over the summer we worked with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the YouTube star Ali-A, helping to inspire the next generation of surveyors by demonstrating the latest interactive 3D-modelling technologies and flying our high-accuracy drones.
September 2017
Parliamentary Review
In September, the annual Parliamentary Review of the Construction and Engineering sectors was launched – we were delighted to be featured in this prestigious publication that showcases the innovation and best practice across a range of industries. A gala dinner at Westminster wasn’t a bad way to celebrate!
October 2017
PC Monitoring
As well as monitoring buildings and structures for any signs of movement, our dedicated PC Monitoring division continues to monitor a number of London Underground and Network Rail assets that run alongside and underneath some of London’s large-scale urban regeneration projects. These include the likes of Kings Cross, Old Oak Common and Brent Cross.

PC Enviro
Led by our experienced Head of Environmental Planning, Tony Selwyn, our environmental surveying and monitoring division is now delivering an enhanced range of services. Working across a wide range of projects, PC Enviro’s expanded offering covers everything from noise, vibration and air quality to pre-acquisition assessments and Section 61 consents.

Vogel awards nominations
Just a matter of months after launching, our Vogel R3D rail survey system received a number of award nominations from respected bodies such as Construction News, the UK Rail Industry Alliance and the Rail Business Awards. It’s also Christmas… we wish you all the very best for the festive season. See you in 2018!
